1-Bareroot Seedling Size Loquat Tree. Loquat, or Eriobotrya japonica, is a type of Japanese plum. This low-maintenance plant thrives in all types of soil & because it only reaches 25 to 30 feet in height, can fit easily in most backyards & it takes well to cutting back & shaping to any size. This hardy sun loving plant will become a fruit bearing tree within 5 to 7 years. They grow with little care as long as they have plenty of sun & no frost. Large, orange, tear drop shaped vitamin-rich fruit has flavorful, juicy, orange flesh that taste like a mix of peach, citrus and mild mango. This attractive tree is an excellent mid-season loquat & is self fertil. In our sunny location of Ventura California it bears fruit twice a year in April/May then September/October. The loquat is low in saturated fat and sodium, and is high in vitamin A, dietary fiber, potassium, and manganese. Enjoys full sun & can be grown in a container making it excellent on sunny decks or patios for a tropical effect.
